Regretfully Blaqk Box 2018 has to announce that Debbie Sledge will not be able to join us. We wish much success to the Sister Sledge European Tour ( and are eternally grateful for Debbie's prayers and support! Her letter of apology follows:

Greetings from Europe!

I regret to inform you that I will no longer be able to attend the Blaqk Box Event on July 20th and 21st of 2018. Due to unforseen circumstances beyond my control, and last minute changes to our Sister Sledge tour schedule, it is no longer possible to join you physically, although my prayers and support go out to you from abroad.

I have tried my best to make every attempt to be there and I was looking forward to making my small contribution to this highly valuable initiative to serve, and to make a difference in the lives of children and underserved young adults, in the performing arts.

Although I will not be able to come myself, I will however, be sending my son David (Sledge )Young along with my daughter Camille Sledge, who are both highly qualified and experienced artist and educators. They are both very excited about the Blaqk Box project. They are both going to be there in my place, to uphold our family legacy of professionalism,  goodwill, and performance excellence. Thank you for thinking of me and inviting me to participate in this important and worthy project, and please keep me in mind for future endeavors together with New Generation Fine Arts FoundationI to create artistic outlets for youth around the globe.  I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. Nevertheless, I know without a doubt that this first annual Blaqk Box event will be a smashing Success!

With Blessings and Love,

Debbie Sledge

Debbie Sledge is an accomplished vocalist and recording artist who has been mesmerizing audiences since the early 1970s. She is a principal member and vocal director of the group she began with her siblings, the Grammy-nominated Sister Sledge, who hit the top of the charts with worldwide hits such as “We Are Family”, “He’s the Greatest Dancer”, “Lost in the Music”, and “Thinking of You”. These songs made global superstars of the quartet, and today they continue to perform (as a trio) to enthusiastic audiences all over the world.

Of late, Debbie has stepped out on her own as well, exploring the jazz classics and lesser-known gems close to her heart. Influenced by the artistry of legendary jazz greats such as Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, Shirley Horn, Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson, Little Jimmy Scott and many others who were pivotal to her artistic development, her silky vocal style - likened to a waterfall by more than one critic, - soothes and enraptures listeners, transporting them to the intimate jazz clubs of New York, and Paris.

In 2014, she released "Unsung", a mellow debut solo collection of spiritual and love songs such as “Fever”, “Get Out of Town”, “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life”, “But Beautiful”, the deeply affecting “Once I Loved”, the inspirational “Jesus the Way”; and the sultry “Besame Mucho”, as well as two self composed originals, - the thought provoking “Murky” and the catchy “My Theme”.

In November 2016, a new LP was released entitiled 'Debbie Sledge with the Niels Lan Doky Trio Live at the Standard'. Featuring the Maestro , Niels Lan Doky on piano, Francois Moutin on bass and Victor Jones on drums. (For more info go to
